ABOUT MY THERAPY
I choose to submerge myself into the world of the person/family; I am working with. I use a combination of modalities/methods, dependent on each unique individual(s)/family’s need(s), such as: aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy; guided imagery and meditation exercises/skills are also incorporated.
These approaches can assist with learning how to change emotional thinking/behavioral patterns causing distress, as well as improve mental and physical wellness through the development of skills and problem-solving. Throughout the process, emphasis is placed on actions and thoughts that are within ones "own” control, rather than blaming or trying to control others. Central to my therapy is a trusting relationship between myself, you/your family; with an emphasis on feeling safe, heard and respected.
GET TO KNOW ME
Growing up with my Father serving as a police officer in the Tacoma Police Department, played a role in my desire to serve others. Seeing firsthand, the impact the lack of treatment and care has on an individual in need of unique or acute assistance, led me to dedicate myself to assisting individuals from all walks of life; in their pursuit towards recovery and lifelong maintenance of mental and physical well-being.
I utilize Motivational Interviewing with a Humanistic/Existential approach as a foundation to my therapy. Which means understanding that a "whole" person is more than the sum of his or her parts. I understand people by examining their interpersonal relationships. That people have many levels of self-awareness, that can be neither ignored nor put into an abstract context. That individuals have free will and are participants rather than observers in their own lives; and that people's lives have purpose, value and meaning.
